         Almost all our energy comes from oil, coal, and natural gas. We call them fossil fuels. The earth’s fossil fuels are running out. What will happen when there is no coal, oil and gas on earth?

         Scientists are trying to find and use other alternative sources of energy. We can use energy from the sun, the wind, and the water.

         Solar energy is unlimited. The sun supplies all the energy used to grow plants, to evaporate water for rain, and to maintain the temperature of the planet. All are necessary for human life. If we are able to collect solar energy, we will be sure to have this abundant source of power.

         Another source of energy from nature is the wind which is clean and plentiful. Energy from the wind has been used for centuries to move ships, grind grain, pump water and do other forms of work. In recent time, wind has been used to generate electricity.

         Water can also provide power. For a long time, people have used water to power machines. Some early uses of water were to mill grain, saw wood and power machinery for the textile industry. Today water is mostly used to generate electricity.

More than two hundred years ago, the term “environmental pollution” was quite strange to people, they lived healthily, drank pure water, and breathed fresh air. Nowadays, the situation is quite different. People all over the world are worried about things that are happening to the environment. Are you looking for a cheap, clean, effective source of power that doesn't cause pollution or waste natural resources? Look no further than solar energy from the Sun.

At present, most of our electricity comes from the use of coal and gas, oid or nuclear power. This power could be provided by the Sun. One percent of the solar energy that reaches the Earth is enough to provide power for the total population. Many countries are already using solar energy. Solar panels are placed on the roofs of a house and the Sun's energy is used to heat water. The energy can be stored for a number of days, so on cloudy days you can use solar energy, too. Thomas A. Edison sinh ra ở Milan, Ohio, vào ngày 11 tháng 2 năm 1847. Gia đình ông chuyển đến Port Huron, Michigan, khi ông được bảy tuổi. Điều đáng ngạc nhiên là ông chỉ đi học được hai tháng. Mẹ ông, một cựu giáo viên, đã dạy ông một số điều, nhưng Thomas chủ yếu là tự học. Sự tò mò bẩm sinh đã khiến ông bắt đầu thử nghiệm khi còn nhỏ.

Thomas Alve Edison đã thắp sáng thế giới với phát minh ra đèn điện. Mặc dù đèn điện có vẻ là hữu ích nhất, nhưng nó không phải là phát minh duy nhất của ông. Ông cũng phát minh ra máy ghi âm, máy ảnh chuyển động và hơn 1.200 thứ khác. Khoảng hai tuần một lần, ông ấy tạo ra một cái gì đó mới.

Ông ấy đã làm việc 16 trên 24 giờ. Đôi khi ông làm việc căng thẳng đến mức vợ ông phải nhắc nhở ông ăn ngủ.

Thomas Edison qua đời ở tuổi 84 vào ngày 18 tháng 10 năm 1931, tại khu đất của ông ở West Orange, New Jersey. Ông đã để lại rất nhiều phát minh giúp cải thiện chất lượng cuộc sống trên toàn thế giới.
